I boiled some frozen gnocchi tonight with the intention of covering them in tomato sauce as usual. I bit into one to test for doneness and realized how plain they are. I dreamed up this quick recipe which brought new life to this potato pasta.
I used a small bag of frozen gnocchi and boiled them according to package directions (till they rise to the top). I think it’s about 8 minutes.
Other ingredients: 1 tbl butter, 2 tbl brown sugar, 1/4 tsp hot sesame oil, 1 sweet roasted pepper (from a jar)
Drain the gnocchi. In a frying pan, add a tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the gnocchi and stir till covered. Add the brown sugar and sesame oil. This stuff is really strong so don’t use too much. Slice a whole sweet red pepper and add to the mix. Coat with the mixture.
It’s got a sweet taste but the hot sesame oil counteracts it and gives it a punch.
This will go from ingredients on the counter to food on the table in about 20 minutes. I served with a salad.
